I saw a reference the other day (in regards to my occupation) that I was a "website owner." Yes, that's right...I started the Texas Trading Post-Fun Texas Stuff as a hobby while I was still in the Convention and Visitors Bureau industry. When my late husband and I decided to retire and move back to our hometown of College Station (we grew up here), we thought it would be fun to have a professional website built...something we could do together a couple of hours a day in our jammies while we were drinking coffee.

Our webmaster told us it would take at least six months before we got our first order but within six weeks, we were slammed with orders. What started out as a Mom and Pop operation in our spare bedroom led us to a 3,000 square foot, two story warehouse on North Dowling and a separate 1,500 square foot packing office on Holleman.

We have been named the Best of the Brazos Valley for Online Shopping for the past six years and we were recognized by Texas Monthly as being one of the best resources for Texas gifts and decor on the internet...we are also the largest online store for Texas "stuff."

Besides shipping to our fellow Texans around the world, we also enjoy a large corporate business. Our list of clients includes the Great State of Texas, IBM, Dow Chemical, M.D. Anderson Hospital, Randolph AFB, State Farm Insurance, Texas Department of Public Safety, Federal Bureau of Investigation, British Petroleum, Shell Oil Company, Tilson Homes, Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Texas Medical Association, Texas A&M Ladies Golf, University of North Texas, Shell Oil Company, Hewlitt Packard...well, I could go on but if I did, y'all would probably think I was bragging...(-:

We are classified as a HUB vendor with the State of Texas - Historically Underutilized Business and have gone through TxDot's mentor program.

We are honored to be the providers of the annual USA Rugby Association's Most Valuable Player Award for their international Sevens Competition.

We do a significant business in custom metal art for our Law Enforcement Agencies around the United States and all five branches of the Armed Forces.

We enjoy an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, are members of the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce, Go Texan, and have been juried into the TrulyTexan marketplace.

Yes, I'm a small business owner and I'm very much hands on. I recognize the challenges other small businesses have, especially if they are unique or serve a niche market as we do. As the city continues to grow, it's going to be imperative to not only bring in new businesses and retail stores but the City needs to be small business friendly so we can retain those who are with us now....so we can all grow together.

So, yes, I am a website owner. And a very proud one at that.

This beautiful cloisonne ornaments is our exclusive design and you'll only find it at the Texas Trading Post.  Russ and I personally designed this ornament, working with Texas artist Kitty Keller to create a unique and exclusive piece for our website.
